Carmen Mondragon

Nahui Olin (as she was also known), was a controversial painter for her time, as she generally portrayed her life including nudes like a diary in which she emphasized her physical features that followed the beauty standards of the twentieth century: light eyes, white complexion, and slim figure.
She studied in Europe and returned to Mexico to marry in the middle of the Revolution. Later, she took art classes at the San Carlos Academy and met Gerardo Murillo (Dr. Atl) who baptized her with the Nahuatl name “Nahui Olin”. Her paintings always reflected her personality, which was molded since she was a child by the privileges of a powerful family, since her father was a military materiel developer. In the same way and on some occasions, her interest in Mexican traditions was also noticeable.

In addition to painting, Carmen wrote poetry and was a model for photographs; showing her naked figure after the Mexican Revolution was a way of expressing rebellion and joy in her own self.
